It is no longer possible to apply for a regular visa at the embassy. All applicants must apply for an eVisa (electronic visa) online. The usual entry visa is valid for 3 months from the date specified as the arrival date and entitles the holder to a stay of up to 30 days.
As of 01.10.24, all visitors to Zanzibar (except residents with a Tanzanian residence permit) must take out compulsory travel insurance with the Zanzibar Insurance Corporation (ZIC) for the duration of their stay (up to 92 days). This insurance can only be taken out with ZIC; other international travel insurance policies are not accepted. Further information can be found on the website of ZIC.
Starting October 1, 2026, all visitors to mainland Tanzania must also purchase mandatory travel insurance from the National Insurance Corporation Tanzania Ltd (NIC) for the duration of their stay (up to 92 days). The insurance can be purchased online upon arrival or before the trip. For more information, visit the website https://inbound.nicinsurance.co.tz/
